District 46 boss lauded as a patriot:

Grayslake Elementary District 46 Superintendent Ellen Correll was lauded for her patriotism this week for helping her secretary join the Army Reserves. During a school board meeting Wednesday, Correll’s assistant, Lourie Shipley, presented her with the Patriot Award from the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Shipley said she wrote a 500-word essay to the committee noting Correll’s encouragement when she joined the Army Reserves last year so she could resume her military career on a part-time basis. Employers qualify for recognition when they practice leadership and personnel policies that support employee participation in the Guard and Reserve. Shipley said Correll joined her on morning runs and afternoon walks to get in shape for the Army Reserves. “We even dieted together and I ended up losing 15 pounds,” Shipley said.
