‘Summer Fling’ taking place of Taste of Des Plaines

Community spirit will be alive at Des Plaines Summer Fling, Thursday-Sunday, July 21-24 on Ellinwood Street in downtown Des Plaines.

The Fling is in its first year — a re-branding of the annual Taste of Des Plaines into a four-day festival.

Back again will be food, including the cuisine of popular local restaurants.

There will also be an impressive music lineup, activities for kids, arts and crafts at the “Pearson Street Art Fair,” a business expo and more.

Running the festival is Special Events Management, a private company that handles more than 30 suburban festivals and events, including the Alexian Tour of Elk Grove bike races in August.

The Taste of Des Plaines, which ended in 2010, was focused on the food. Food will still be a big part of the Fling, organizers say. DAILY HERALD FILE PHOTO
