Crash victim identified as 18-year-old Round Lake man

Round Lake Park police continue to investigate a Sunday afternoon crash that killed an 18-year-old Round Lake man and injured five others.

Rogelio Lopez Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene after the Ford Excursion he was riding in struck a tree on the 400 block of Clifton Drive at 4:13 p.m. Sunday, officials said.

The other five in the SUV were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center with “serious” injuries, said Round Lake Fire Lt. Dennis Ostrander.

An autopsy on Lopez was performed Monday afternoon, but results will not be available until Tuesday, said Lake County Deputy Coroner Mike Reid.

It took about 15 minutes for firefighters to pull the passengers from the vehicle with the assistance of the Grayslake and Fox Lake fire departments.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
