Ill. teen charged in fatal attack over bicycle
A Ford Heights teen is accused of beating a man to death while trying to steal his bicycle.
Bond has been set at $2 million for 18-year-old Ronald Wade of Ford Heights.
Cook County sheriff’s officials say witnesses described seeing Wade and the victim struggling over the bike on Monday night.
They say Wade used a choke hold on the man, beat him and threw him to the ground, causing severe head injuries.
The man was in critical condition all week before dying Saturday afternoon.
Wade was charged Thursday with aggravated battery. The sheriff’s office says charges are likely to be upgraded pending an autopsy and review by the state’s attorney’s office.
The victim’s name hasn’t been released.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether Wade has an attorney.
