Scouting the Portland Timbers: The expansion Timbers (5-9-3, 18 points) make their first visit to Toyota Park. Captain Jack Jewsbury is having a breakout season. Defender Eric Brunner is suspended. The Timbers have lost six of their last seven games.
Scouting the Fire: The Fire (2-5-12, 18 points) added midfielder Sebastian Grazzini this week, but he said he won’t play. Diego Chaves and Josip Mikulic are suspended. Backup forward Orr Barouch has been hot in reserve and U.S. Open Cup matches lately.
Next: Manchester United, 4 p.m. July 23 at Soldier Field
