Clinton says Gadhafi's days are 'numbered'

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is warning Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi that his days in power are "numbered" and that the international community in the coming days will be stepping up pressure on him to leave.

Clinton said Wednesday that the United States and other countries are continuing to get conflicting messages from Gadhafi associates about his intentions as NATO keeps up its military operations in Libyan to protect civilians. Clinton said she could not predict "the exact day or hour" of Gadhafi's departure. But she said, in her words, "his days are numbered."

Clinton will attend a meeting of senior officials from countries backing the NATO's Libya operation in Turkey on Friday. She says they will be working hard to increase the pressure on Gadhafi.
