Man charged with 5th DUI — in stolen car

A 40-year-old Westchester man faces prison time after being arrested over the weekend for his fifth DUI while driving a car reported as stolen while his two nephews were in the back seat.

Bail was set Sunday at $750,000 for Tommy J. Droulias of the 10000 block of Windsor Drive.

He is charged with felony DUI, aggravated DUI, aggravated battery to a police officer, possession of stolen vehicle, two misdemeanor counts of endangering the health of a child and at least his 10th arrest for driving while license suspended or revoked, authorities said.

South Elgin Police Detective Sgt. Mike Doty said an officer on patrol in a shopping mall parking lot in the 300 block of Randall Road Saturday pulled Droulias over at 9:34 p.m. after Droulias nearly struck the squad car with a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Doty said a check on the vehicle revealed it was reported stolen out of Chicago and Droulias told officers he had too much to drink.

Officers also saw two boys — ages 10 and 12 — in the back seat without their seat belts on.

Doty said Droulias also had an altercation with officers back at the station, kneeing one of them in the elbow in an attempt to knee another officer in the head.

Droulias remained at the Kane County jail Monday afternoon and is due next in court on July 28.

If convicted of the most serious felony, he could face four to 15 years in prison.
