Building collapse briefly traps Bloomington woman

BLOOMINGTON — A Bloomington bridge that was closed after the collapse of a nearby century-old building has been reopened.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that the Illinois Department of Transportation inspected the Center Street bridge in Bloomington's warehouse district on Tuesday and found it undamaged.

A pedestrian walkway on one side of the bridge, however, was damaged and will remain closed for now.

The three-story brick building collapsed Monday evening. Rubble fell on adjacent buildings that included a business where 22-year-old Jessica Sandoval was working. She was freed after more than an hour and taken to a local hospital. There's no word on her condition Tuesday.

Surrounding buildings were damaged and some will have to be demolished.
