Chicago airports see storm delays, cancellations

Severe thunderstorms in the Chicago area Monday morning caused delays and flight cancellations that have rippled through the day.

Airlines at O'Hare International Airport report delays up to 90 minutes for arriving and departing flights. The weather has caused more than 200 flight cancellations at O'Hare.

At Midway International Airport, some airlines are experiencing delays from 30 to 90 minutes for arriving and departing flights. Only minor cancellations have been reported at Midway.

The Chicago Department of Aviation advises travelers and people picking up passengers to check the status of flights on airline websites.

The strong winds and rain in northern Illinois knocked out power to 700,000 utility customers at the height of the storm. The fast-moving storm downed trees and damaged property throughout the Chicago area.
