Shame we don’t know our history
My son, an officer in the United States Marine Corps, spent part of his Independence Day weekend at a swearing in ceremony for one of his fellow Marines. She immigrated from Russia, joined the Marines and went for her citizenship.
I’m betting that she will make a fine American, and I’ll bet that she knows more about our country than 99 percent of natural born citizens.
The school system has failed miserably at American history and civics. I hear about polls on this subject now and again and NBC’s Jay Leno has his Jaywalking segment where he asks mostly young people on the street about American history. I am sure older people do just as well.
What a shame!
