St. Sophia Greek Fest July 8-10

St. Sophia Church at 525 Church Road in Elgin (Route 31 and I-90) will present its 33rd annual summer “Greek Fest” the weekend of July 8-10.

The fest will be open for lunch on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (faxed-in orders for pick up are available) and then again from 5 to 11 p.m. for dinner. On Saturday and Sunday, the fest will open at noon and close at 11 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 p.m. on Sunday. Traditionally, the fest attracts over 12,000 people to it every year. It is open to the public and admission is $2.

In addition to wonderful authentic Greek cuisine dinner dishes such as Gyros, Grecian Chicken, Souvlaki (shish-ka-bob), Mousaka, Pastitsio, we will also serve Saganaki (flaming cheese, OPA!), and Greek Fries, Fried Calamari, and Greek Salad. For a sample of a few traditional dishes, one should try the appetizer plate as well. For those who prefer American fare, hamburgers (as well as “Greek” hamburgers), and hot dogs will also be available. Please note that this year is our first year having an addition of a DRIVE THRU! If you are up for a night in, with some great food, come and enjoy your favorites without having to enter the festival!

After dinner, please unwind at the Greek Kafenio where many traditional Greek sweets such as baklava and loukoumathes, can be found. Enjoy a cup of Greek or American coffee, or turn that baklava into an ice cream sundae! Let the kids enjoy the games and inflatable rides, (moonwalk and obstacle course)and including the ever popular Euro-Bungee! (Rides are not open during the Friday lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) Unlimited rides from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for $10!

As you enjoy the music and entertainment from “Personalities” who will be playing music and games with the crowd (especially the kids) on Friday and Saturday evening, age appropriate adults can enjoy the full bar. Parry Tsangaris from Pericles Productions, will be providing traditional and modern Greek music during the day and evening on Sunday. St. Sophia's Agape Dance Troupe will also be performing traditional Greek dances in full costume all weekend as well.

Special features include the “Marketplace” indoors where you can shop the fabulous crafts, beautiful jewelry, books, icons, purses, and other treasures. Don't forget to also buy your raffle ticket for the Grand Raffle, where you can win up to $10,000!
