Village’s lake needs attention

Thank you, Daily Herald, for your recent comment on our village’s legal fees. As I asked months ago, what is the price of being right? Sadly we now know. In a recent budget meeting, Ms. Rabbitini disclosed she had found a way to bring our budget out of the red, and have 70k surplus. However, she did not disclose how she would be doing this.

Sadly, it more than likely would require several village employees to be laid off. And for what? To pay for this dueling lawyer fiasco?

The heart of Island Lake is our lake. Which is in need of weed control, as well as controlling the geese and their fecal matter. To address this issue, and to actually work, the lake needs to have the weeds that are bad to be controlled. This would include the weeds at the bottom of the lake, the weeds floating on top of the lake, algae, and the geese problem.

All four issues must be addressed at the same time, or it will not work.

For the members on our village board who have never been on a boat ride on our lake, please consider taking one.

Sadly, the residents who do not live in the older section of town, know very little about our lake. My grown children fondest memories are related to this lake. They would go ice skating, ice fishing, fishing, swimming, and boating. Our lake is in much better shape then it was many years ago.

Yet, the green slime is beyond gross. Instead of wasting money on lawyers, let us spend our money on making our lake the best it can be. The village of Island Lake was built around this lake. It is the heart of our village. Please stop fighting, both sides. Let us cherish our lake and take care of it in the manner it deserves.
