Arlington Hts. offers tetanus vaccine

If you don’t know when you last had a tetanus shot, the answer is you are probably due for your booster, or the Tdap vaccine, now being offered at the Arlington Heights Wellness Clinics and the monthly Immunization Clinic.

If you are a caregiver of an infant younger than 12 months, consider getting this vaccine to help protect against the spread of pertussis.

Through grant funding, Arlington Heights is able to offer Tdap, (tetanus toxoid, diphtheria toxoid and pertussis) for $10 at Wellness Clinics at the village hall from 3-4:30 p.m. Mondays and 8:30-10 a.m. Thursdays.

The village will also offer Tdap vaccinations at Immunization Clinics from 5-7 p.m. the third Monday of each month.

Once this supply is depleted, the village will continue to offer this vaccine at the Immunization Clinics for cost (currently $40). For details, call the Health Services Department at (847) 368-5760.

Whooping cough remains poorly controlled in the U.S. — especially hit are infants younger than 12 months who do not complete the pertussis series until after 18 months of age.

Babies generally catch pertussis from their caregivers.
