Robbery suspect dies in police custody

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee police say a suspect has died after being arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Police were on patrol about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when officers say they spotted a suspect wearing a ski mask accosting two people. Two officers ran after the suspect who was found hiding in a nearby yard.

Police Chief Ed Flynn, speaking on WTMJ radio, says no force was used to take the man into custody. He was placed in the back of a squad car where an officer later spotted him lying down, checked his pulse, pulled him from the squad and began CPR.

Paramedics arrived and continued lifesaving efforts. Police say the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
