Palatine Twp. holds inaugural Blue Star Banner presentation

Palatine Township held its inaugural Blue Star Banner Presentation June 27, at its monthly board meeting.

The township’s Blue Star Banner Program honors and supports military families residing in Palatine Township.

Five military families were honored and presented a Blue Star Banner along with a special township resolution at the event.

The soldiers, who were not present, are Christopher Bradley, Marines; James Detloff, Army; Brian Michie, Air Force; Zach Olson, Army; and Dustin Warkenthien, Air Force.

Palatine Mayor Jim Schwantz presented the Blue Star Banners to the four Palatine residents and Mayor Tom Rooney for the Rolling Meadows resident.

Rooney also shared the personal story of his own military family, and spoke of the power and importance of this Blue Star Banner program in supporting these families.

Greater Chicago Area Blue Star Mothers director Joyce Carrasco, who helped create the program with town clerk Lisa Moran, and Jolene Morris, a representative from the First United Methodist Church of Palatine, which covered the costs of the banners, were present for this ceremony. The ceremonial presentations will continue to take place at upcoming monthly board meetings.
