Free seminars for parents of college-bound students

Parents confronting the college application process have a reliable resource for learning about scholarships and other funding options, the ACT/SAT college entrance exams, selecting the best major to augment a future career, the college application process for special needs students, and much more.

STAIRWAY TO COLLEGE, a local non-profit group dedicated to sharing useful information and suggestions for making each step of the college application process efficient and successful, is sponsoring a series of free seminars empowering parents of college-bound sophomore, junior, and senior high school students.

Two free seminars are scheduled for this summer at Barrington Area Public Library, 505 N. Northwest Hwy. On July 26, "Bridging the Gap from High School to College," focuses on paying for tuition, choosing a major, and conquering college entrance exams. The Aug. 9 program, "S-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g Your College Tuition Dollars," introduces innovative ways to pay for college.

The programs are free, but space is limited and reservations are necessary, so save the dates now -- July 26 and Aug. 9. For more information about either seminar and to register, log on to www.StairwayToCollege.org.
