Debate is about who can afford cuts
The ongoing debate about reducing the deficit is a debate about who is going to pay. There is no doubt that cuts will have to be made, but not the draconian cuts some support.
On one hand, cuts to benefits that aid the elderly, the disabled. the poor and the middle class would bear the primary burden. On the other hand if the ill-advised tax cuts for the wealthy were rescinded, they would share in paying, thus reducing the burden on those least able to afford it.
