Illinois agency issues fireworks license reminder
State officials say it’s best to leave the big fireworks shows to the professionals.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says anyone sponsoring fireworks displays in the state are required to have licenses and certificates. A violation of the Illinois Explosives Act could mean a felony charge with up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The state agency can also impose other fines for violations involving explosives.
The natural resources department says 994 individuals in Illinois are licensed to display fireworks.
The rules do not apply to consumer or personal fireworks, including roman candles, bottle rockets or firecrackers.
