Glen Ellyn man charged with stealing, submerging truck

A Glen Ellyn man has been charged with stealing a truck and trailer that ended up partially submerged in Lake Ellyn last month, police said.

Authorities said Christopher Brewer, 20, of 500 block of Duane Street, stole the pickup truck and attached trailer from a business in unincorporated Glen Ellyn. Police discovered it in the lake — unoccupied — about 4 a.m. June 4.

The truck’s owner, a concrete and asphalt contractor, lives near the lake and was on scene as crews worked to remove the vehicle.

Brewer is charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, failure to stop after having an accident involving an unattended motor vehicle and obstructing identification.

Brewer turned himself in to authorities June 10 after investigators obtained a warrant for his arrest on June 7.

Bond was set at $15,000, and Brewer posted the required 10 percent to be released. A court date is pending.
