How could all those kids be missing?
I’m a little curious about the numbers quoted by Kristi Lafleur and John Jesernik in the letter about child ID cards (Fence Post, June 13). They state that 2,100 children per day are reported missing. According to my math, that works out to almost three-quarters of a million children in a year. With the population of 14 and under at about 65 million, that means over one out of every 100 children are “missing” in a year. For most elementary schools this would be five to 10 students in a year.
Don’t you think this would be something that a lot more people would notice? Perhaps the source of this number should be checked.
