Des Plaines Community Band performs at Live at the Lake
The Des Plaines Park District Community Concert Band performed on June 30 at the Lake Park Memorial Pavilion as part of the Live at the Lake free summer entertainment series.
The band, a talented collection of over fifty local musicians, played selections from the their wide repertoire of classics, popular hits, marches, patriotic tunes, and movie scores under the direction of Larry J. Carle.
The program opened with the traditional March for Des Plaines, and the Star Spangled Banner. Other numbers included Jay Chattaway's "Northwest Overture," "Boston Pops March" by Ernest Gold, Handel's "Water Music," "Hollywood!" arranged by Warren Barker and conducted by Associate Conductor David A. Sterling, "The Minnesota March" by John Philip Sousa, "Dance of the Tumblers" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, "Pop and Rock Legends: The Association," arranged by Ted Ricketts, and selections from Richard Rogers' "The Sound of Music."
The band will perform next at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, and again at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7 at the Lake Park Memorial Pavilion. Admission is free. For more information call (847) 391-5711 or visit www.desplainesparks.org.
