LivingWell breaks ground on Geneva cancer center

LivingWell Cancer Resource Center and CDH/Delnor Health System recently celebrated the ground breaking for a new, expanded center at Williamsburg and Route 38 in Geneva.

The planned $5 million, 15,400-square-foot building will be triple the size of the current 5,600-square-foot facility and feature: a comfortable lobby area with a relaxing water feature; a studio for mind, body and fitness activities; a cooking demonstration kitchen; multipurpose room for educational programs; clinical counseling areas for adults, families and children; small and large support group rooms; and an enlarged health and cancer resource library.

It also will have a Healthy Boutique for hair and makeup demonstrations for cancer patients; outdoor gardens for children, teenagers and adults; an art therapy room; conference rooms; and administrative offices.

LivingWell opened in September 2005 and since that time has served more than 9,500 clients through 50 different programs.

“Each year, we have experienced more than 20 percent growth in participation,” says Executive Director Nancy Vance. “That’s why the new building will be so important to our ability to meet the future support needs of cancer patients, cancer survivors and their loved ones.”

LivingWell provides services on the campuses of Delnor and CDH, as well as eight other hospitals and clinics in the area. It also receives referrals from 26 medical oncology physician practices and 19 hospitals.

The center currently has six full- and part-time staff members and more than 150 volunteers, including 42 medical professionals such as physicians, clinical counselors, etc. The new building is expected to be completed in the spring of 2012.
