Find out ‘How the Navy Protects America’ at IMSA

U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Clarke Orzalli and Navy officials will present “How the Navy Protects America” and meet with Summer@IMSA campers to celebrate Chicago Navy Week June 25-July 4.

Student participants in IMSA’s Science Explorers Jr., third and fourth grades, and Kidsplorations in Technology-Engineering through the Ages, fifth and sixth grades, summer programs will meet with officials and sailors from the United States Navy who are visiting IMSA as part of Chicago Navy Week, celebrating the 100th anniversary of naval aviation.

During their visit, students will play interactive games using a Naval vehicle and meet with sailors from the Chicago area.

The meeting will take place Thursday, June 30, at Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, 1500 Sullivan Road, Aurora. A Navy vehicle demo with sailors and students will take place from 11:30 a.m. to noon. “How the Navy Protects America” will be presented from 1 to 2 p.m. From 2 to 2:30 p.m., a visit with Summer@IMSA Programs will be held.

U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Clarke Orzalli also will present “How the Navy Protects America” to IMSA students, staff, alumni, members of the East Aurora High School JROTC Corps. and other invited community members.

Orzalli is the Naval Sea Systems Command vice commander and has served aboard the USS Snook as an engineering division and weapons officer, and as USS Helena’s engineering officer. He also has served at the U.S. Naval Academy, as well as tours at naval shipyards.

He has a bachelor of science degree in marine engineering, naval engineer and masters of materials science and engineering degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master of science in systems management from Golden Gate University.
