Health briefs: Hospitals receive stroke awards

Northwest Community, Edward earn awards

Edward Hospital in Naperville and Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights have received the Get With the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.

The awards recognize that for at least 24 months Edward and NCH have demonstrated 85 percent compliance with nationally accepted standards of care for heart failure and stroke patients. For more information, visit nch.org/stroke or edward.org/neuro.

Teen health program

Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Health & Fitness Center in Barrington announces a new, medically based, 12-week children's program called Kids. The individualized program is designed to help young people ages 12 to 17 maintain a healthy weight and develop good nutrition and exercise habits.

The program allows teens and their parents to work with health professionals certified in pediatric obesity. Participants receive a fitness assessment at the beginning and the end of the program.

Nurse wins Daisy

Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights has launched a monthly Daisy Award program to recognize extraordinary nurses with Kristen Jakacki of the float pool being the first recipient.

Jakacki was selected for the inaugural award after she was nominated by the family of a patient. She was chosen from a group of 12 nominees.

The Daisy Award program is part of a national program recognizing the contributions of nurses.
