Waukegan fireworks show back on
Independence Day fireworks are back on the schedule in Waukegan, officials announced Friday.
Earlier this week, the city council canceled the fireworks show planned for July 4 by approving an annual spending plan that cut the spending needed for the event.
Waukegan’s fireworks typically cost $25,000, and more money is needed for extra municipal service such as police and fire department coverage, city spokesman David Motley said.
But on Friday, Motley announced in an email to the media that the show has been saved, thanks to a private donation.
The donor was not identified.
The show is set for 9:30 p.m. at the Waukegan Harbor.
