Reinsdorf's granddaugher faces marijuana charges

The granddaughter of Bulls and White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf was arrested on charges of marijuana possession after a traffic stop in Buffalo Grove this week, authorities said.

Melissa Reinsdorf, 19, of Buffalo Grove, was stopped by officers around 1:30 a.m. Thursday at Milwaukee Avenue and Riverwalk Drive after they say she failed to stop at the intersection.

Power was out in the area and traffic lights were not working, but temporary stop signs had been put up, said Corporal Vince Positano of the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

During the traffic stop, an officer told Reinsdorf he saw small pieces of cannabis on her lap, at which point she handed him a small bag with “a green leafy substance,” Positano said.

She later handed the officer a glass smoking pipe, Positano said.

Reinsdorf was formally charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to obey a stop sign.

Positano said since the amount of marijuana found was less than 10 grams, the violation would be handled under local village ordinance.
