Des Plaines Metropolitan Square work begins Monday

Des Plaines public works crews will begin the first phase of the Metropolitan Square crosswalk removal and replacement project Monday. The work will last roughly seven to 10 days weather permitting. It involves the removal and replacement of all crosswalk areas in Metropolitan Square with longer-lasting decorative stamped concrete and will require the closure of Market Street from Lee Street to Pearson Street and the half-moon parking area. The project is part of the city’s 2011 capital improvements program and the work will be done by MQ Construction. Detour signs will direct traffic to the parking garage and to the Shop ‘N Save parking lot. Crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The second phase of work will follow, requiring closure of the parking garage entrance on Metropolitan Way and two-way traffic from the Market Street entrance.
