Village Wellness Clinics offers Tdap vaccine
If you don't know when you last had your tetanus shot, you are probably due for your booster. If you are a caregiver of an infant under 12 months of age, please consider this wonderful opportunity.
Through grant funding received, the village of Arlington Heights is able to offer Tdap, (tetanus toxoid, diphtheria toxoid and pertussis) for only $10 at our Wellness Clinics held at the village hall, 33 S. Arlington Heights Road.
These clinics are offered Monday afternoons from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday mornings from 8:30 to 10 a.m. We will also offer Tdap vaccinations at our Immunization Clinic which is held the third Monday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m.
Despite high coverage of pertussis vaccination, pertussis (whooping cough) remains poorly controlled in the US. Especially hit hardest are infants under 12 months who do not complete the pertussis series until after 18 months of age, when often times pertussis proves fatal.
Babies generally catch pertussis from their care givers which is why the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) approved the following recommendations for Tdap: use of Tdap regardless of interval since the last tetanus or diphtheria – toxoid containing vaccine, use of Tdap in certain adults aged 65 years and older, and caregivers of infants under 12 months (healthcare professionals, daycare workers, etc.).
Once this supply is depleted, we will continue to offer this vaccine at the Immunization Clinic for cost (currently $40).
