Federal building to be named after ex-Rep Lipinski
A federal building in downtown Chicago is being renamed after former U.S. Rep. Bill Lipinski.
The U.S. Railroad Retirement Board building will be renamed the William O. Lipinski Federal Building at a ceremony Wednesday.
The Chicago Tribune reports former U.S. House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert and current Democratic Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan will attend the festivities.
Lipinski was a leading member of the House Transportation Committee and frequent point man for Chicago Mayor Richard Daley on airport issues. His district included Midway International Airport.
The Chicago Democrat served 22 years in Congress representing a district on the city's Southwest Side.
He was succeeded by his son, Daniel.
