• Meet author/poet Jack Prelutsky at a reception honoring him with the 2011 Kermit Myers Award from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at the Evanston Historical Society, 225 Greenwood St., Evanston. Prelutsky, named the first children's Poet Laureate by the Poetry Foundation, will recite his poetry at the reception. Some of Prelutsky's award-winning books include “The New Kid on the Block” and “The Dragons Are Singing Tonight.” Tickets are $35 for adults; children accompanied by an adult are free. Each child in attendance will be invited to select a copy of one of Prelutsky's books to take home. The event is hosted by Book Worm Angels, an organization that collects and distributes books for elementary schools in impoverished neighborhoods.
