City suggests changes in response to blizzard
CHICAGO — Chicago officials who studied the city's response to February's massive blizzard say a plan should be put in place to make it clearer when Lake Shore Drive should be shut down.
The city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications acknowledged Monday that more could have been done. The statement came four months after a traffic jam on the famed thoroughfare left motorists sitting in their cars for hours or had them trudging through the snow to safety.
In a report, released Monday, the OEMC suggested more breaks in the median that would allow vehicles to get off the drive. It also recommended putting tow trucks along the drive when extreme weather is expected.
