Chicago cops plead not guilty to sex assault
Two Chicago police officers charged with sexually assaulting a woman while on duty have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Paul Clavijo and Juan Vasquez entered their pleas Monday in Cook County circuit court. Both men, charged with criminal sexual assault and official misconduct, are free on $500,000 bail.
Prosecutors say Clavijo and Vasquez, both 38, were on duty March 30 when they spotted a crying woman walking near Wrigley Field and offered her a ride home.
Prosecutors say while Vasquez purchased alcohol, Clavijo sexually assaulted the woman in the marked police vehicle. They said the three went to the woman’s apartment, where the woman was again sexually assaulted.
Both men are 10-year veterans of the Chicago Police Department and have been stripped of their police powers.
