Boy dies after falling into Chicago harbor

Authorities in Chicago say a 5-year-old boy died after falling into the Jackson Park Yacht Harbor on the city's South Side.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Chief Joe Roccasalva says divers pulled Tyrone White out of the water after about 20 minutes. He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in very critical condition.

The Cook County medical examiner's office says he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Fire officials say the child was on a dock between his mother and father when he fell in.

Chicago Fire Department Batallion Chief Richard Cooper says the water is about 16 feet deep in that area.

A bystander who ran to the scene to help find the boy says the water was too murky to see anything clearly.
