Why the ‘no’ vote on casino bill?
State Rep. Crespo,
I just left your office a voice mail regarding your “no” vote concerning the recent gambling expansion bill. I live in Hoffman Estates and my wife and I have voted for you in all elections you’ve run in. We’re tired of the high sales tax, income tax, property tax and gas tax (Illinois usually has the highest-priced gas in the U.S.). My wife and I and a few friends have discussed this “no” vote by yourself and we are very perplexed!
I would love to know why you voted that way. If this bill is signed into law by Gov. Quinn, then the state will reap over $1 billion in revenue, which we sorely need. I know you’re aware of casinos such as the Horseshoe (which is 500 feet east of the Illinois border). This casino brings in over $100 million of revenue to Indiana, and if you look in their parking lot, over 95 percent of the license plates on the autos are from Illinois.
The current state leaders are quick to raise taxes but are very weak in finding ways of raising revenue.
I’m awaiting your response. Thank you.
