Summer concerts set for Independence Grove in Libertyville
The Lake County Forest Preserve District’s summer concert series begins June 21.
All of the concerts will be held outdoors at the Independence Grove Forest Preserve near Libertyville. The entrance is on Route 137, east of Milwaukee Avenue.
Dubbed “Events in the Plaza,” the free shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Aug. 9. The first concert features the Caribbean rock band Mr. Myers.
The shows are open to music lovers of all ages. Attendees should bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. A walk-up cafe will be open during concerts for a variety of entrees, snacks or beverages.
Although the concerts are free to attend, visitors driving to the shows will have to pay for parking. The parking fee is $5 per car after 5 p.m. on concert days; free before 5 p.m.
Cars will be turned away when the parking lots are full, so the forest district encourages carpooling. Additionally, to ensure safety, park only in the preserve.
To learn if parking areas are filled or if a concert has been postponed due to rain, call the Independence Grove visitors center at (847) 968-3499.
