Emanuel is honorary chair of Joffrey Ballet board

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has been named honorary chairman of the Joffrey Ballet board of directors.

Emanuel is a former dancer, and the Joffrey says he has a long history with the company.

When he was 17 years old, Emanuel was offered a scholarship to study at the Joffrey. He went on to pursue dance at Sarah Lawrence College.

The ballet's executive committee voted unanimously for the honorary post.

The Joffrey says Emanuel has been a strong supporter of the city's visual and performing arts communities.
