Bees buzz by Cougars 8-4
The Kane County Cougars scored 4 runs in the top of the first inning Wednesday night.
But they never scored again and eventually fell 8-4 to the host Burlington Bees at Community Field. The Cougars have dropped the first two in this three-game set for their fifth straight series loss.
Ryan Stovall belted a 2-run homer off Jose Macias (2-1), and Geulin Beltre nailed a 2-run double to make it 4-0. Stovall had 3 hits, Angel Franco had 4, and the Cougars had 14 as a team.
They had runners at first and second with no outs from the fifth through the seventh innings and didn’t score. They also grounded into 3 double plays.
The Cougars used five pitchers, as the Bees scored 8 straight runs.
Starter Sugar Ray Marimon gave up a run in the first and then 3 in the third to tie the game at 4-4. He left after 2⅔ innings and gave up 4 runs on 7 hits in a no-decision.
Santiago Garrido (0-1) handled the next two innings and allowed 3 runs, and Allen Caldwell allowed 1 run in 1⅓ innings. All three pitchers gave up 2-run homers.
