Follow God’s wisdom even in pursuit of greatness

Daily Herald correspondent#147;My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.#148; #8212; Hosea 4:6 (NIV) God created man for great things. Looking back at the past 100 years and the inventions we witnessed, we can see how through them man#146;s potential for creating great things has been revealed.

However, our search for greatness oftentimes guides us in all the wrong places. Misled youths might join in gang activities looking for power, prestige and a sense to belong to something.

Young girls may abandon their dignity when their search for love gets them entangled with the deceptive thinking that they must attract the opposite sex with seductive glamour. Before you know it, wrong perceptions manifest themselves in eating disorders or wearing inappropriate attire out of a deep need to be desired.

One of the most prominent figures of the Bible was a man named Moses. As Moses grew he, too, knew God was calling him to do something great with his life. Then one day he realized the dream in his heart was to become a leader and free the Israelites from their slavery in Egypt.

So, when he saw an Egyptian fighting with an Israelite, Moses decided to defend the Israelite by murdering the Egyptian. After that, he realized what he had done was wrong #8212; he hadn#146;t handled the situation with wisdom.

Fleeing for his own life and searching for a new start, he wandered away and spent 40 years in the desert, learning the ways of God and cultivating a new way of thinking. Then he went back and became the dynamic leader God intended him to be.

Oftentimes, in our desire for greatness we are like Moses. We feel the desire to express the greatness within our hearts, but go about accomplishing it in misguided ways rather than utilizing the wisdom of God.

Without this wisdom to hold a marriage together; cultivate friendships; minister to others; embrace our unique personalities, talents, likes and dislikes instead of becoming like the crowd, our lives are empty and futile. Our souls are destroyed, as we push aside the love of God and family for more power, wealth and fame.

True success comes from the knowledge of God#146;s love for us and his life-changing principles found in the Bible. It#146;s what keep us from perishing and fosters us to flourish.

Godly wisdom helps transform our destructive mind sets and helps us find the love, power and significance we are all searching for.
