Wheeling surveying storm drains

Surveyors in Wheeling will be out all summer locating storm drains in the village.

The departments of public works and of community planning are pooling their interns to input the locations via satellite as part of an effort to create a more accurate map. The new map will help with redevelopment projects and village utility maintenance, like locating shut off valves when water mains break in the winter.

The current map was created by scanning hand drawn maps into a computer system. The village has been working on this project since 2008.
