McDonald’s sued over fries
Two women are suing McDonald’s and an Elgin franchisee, claiming they got sick from eating french fries contaminated with human blood.
Jodi Garst and Jaclyn Hastings filed a lawsuit in Kane County this week, alleging they became ill on June 13, 2009, after eating fries from the location at 255 S. Randall Road.
Brian Coffman, attorney for the two women, said the pair went through the drive-through at night, began eating the fries out of the bag that “didn’t taste right” and noticed there was blood on them.
The pair went to the hospital and have since tested negative for blood-related diseases, Coffman said. A forensic scientist confirmed the fries contained human blood, he said.
A phone message left at the McDonald’s corporate office in Oak Brook was not immediately returned.
A message left with the owner of the restaurant, also was not returned.
The women seek more than $50,000 in damages; all parties are due in court on Sept. 1 for an initial hearing.
