Man arrested in wife's death at N. Indiana home

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of his wife whose body was found inside their South Bend house that was filled with natural gas.

Investigators arrested 38-year-old Brian Cocot after an autopsy Tuesday determined 38-year-old Marsha Cocot died of asphyxiation and blunt force trauma. Firefighters wearing respirators found her body while searching the house on Monday.

Authorities say Brian Cocot attempted suicide in Elkhart with an overdose of drugs and alcohol.

WNDU-TV reports police had been called twice in the last two weeks to the couple's home on threat reports. WSBT-TV reports investigators wouldn't immediately say how the gas leak was connected to Marsha Cocot's death.

Brian Cocot is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail. Staffers didn't have record of a defense attorney.
