Madigan warns consumers against fuel gels
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is warning consumers to avoid using fuel gels in outdoor firepots because of their potential to cause burns.
Madigan said Tuesday the media have reported severe and even life-threatening burns suffered when people used scented fuel gels poured in firepots for use as outdoor candles.
People have reportedly been burned when adding fuel to a pot to light or relight it and the product has exploded into a fireball.
Madigan says one manufacturer has pulled its product from store shelves while the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission conducts an investigation.
