2 accused in 2007 southwestern Ill. shooting death

BELLEVILLE — Two southwestern Illinois men are accused of fatally shooting an acquaintance four years ago.

Prosecutors in St. Clair County have charged Demond Eckford of Cahokia and Dontez Crumble of East St. Louis with first-degree murder.

Authorities say 21-year-old James Rogers Jr. of Cahokia died after being shot in the neck with a pistol in June 2007 in his apartment. Investigators believe the shooting happened during an attempted armed robbery.

Eckford is jailed on $2 million bond, while Crumble's bail is set at $1 million.

Neither man has a listed home telephone number, and it isn't clear if they have attorneys.
