Truth in sentencing drains Illinois funds
Results of a study of the truth-in-sentencing law have been sent to every senator and representative in the state of Illinois. Truth in sentencing costs taxpayers a great deal because it does not allow for release of prisoners when they are no longer considered dangerous. As prisoners age, the cost of their care increases dramatically while any danger they may present to the community decreases.
Now our legislative bodies are considering expanding Truth in Sentencing to cover more crimes. I urge taxpayers to ask their representatives in Springfield to do a cost-benefit analysis of TIS and consider rolling it back.
