Waukegan Knights of Columbus golf outing aids food pantry

Knights of Columbus Waukegan Council No. 731 will introduce a Father’s Day Golf Outing to benefit the Holy Name Food Pantry.

The event will be Saturday, June 18, at Big Oaks Golf Course in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., and will include various contests, raffles and prizes. Golf will be followed with a dinner.

Knights of Columbus Waukegan Council No. 731 represents three Catholic parishes in Waukegan and North Chicago. With the support and generosity of local businesses, the council raises more than $25,000 annually for area charitable organizations.

Some of these organizations include Holy Family Food Pantry, Holy Family SPRED (Religious education for the developmentally challenged), St. Dismas SPRED, Countryside Association, Ann M. Kiley Development Center and Haitian relief.

While it will continue efforts in supporting these and other local organizations, the focus for the Father’s Day Golf Outing will be to raise money for Holy Family Food Pantry to assist Lake County families in need during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

In 2010 the Knights’ Waukegan council partnered with Holy Family Food Pantry in an effort to bring holiday meals to local families. That partnership resulted in 70 families being able to celebrate the holiday season with a warm meal.

Due to the current economic conditions facing the area, the need is expected to be much greater this year and the goal is to assist 200 Lake County families in need for the 2011 holiday season.

Any businesses that would like to participate in the event through donation opportunities, such as golf hole sponsorship, financial contributions and gift donations for raffle prizes, are asked to contact John Willard at (847) 833-7962, Beverly Stulginskas at (224) 588-0878 or Walter Sczygielski (847) 775-9964.
