Kane Metra Board applicants have varied backgrounds

Kane County Board members seeking to end what they contend is political cronyism on the Metra board will have their work cut out for them — most of the 40 applicants for the county’s spot on the board have strong political ties.

The county’s task force on the Metra board appointment already has made it known it will factor in each candidate’s willingness to serve on the board with little reward in the way of salary and/or benefits.

Kane County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay has called for the resignation of the entire 11-member board of directors, which includes the county’s current representative on the board, Caryl Van Overmeiren.

Van Overmeiren is a former Kane County Board member, and so far has refused to step down.
