Indiana University asking donors to replace trees
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University is asking for donations toward replacing about 300 trees that were destroyed by storms that hit the Bloomington campus last month.
University officials say former IU trustee Stephen Ferguson and his wife have donated 150 trees to start the replacement effort.
IU President Michael McRobbie says he hopes graduates will support the plans for restoring the trees and helping improve the natural beauty of the campus over the coming years. McRobbie is contributing money to buy and plant about 30 trees.
Donations for the Bloomington Campus Tree Restoration project can be sent to the IU Foundation.
Areas targeted for the planting of replacement trees are the IU Arboretum and near the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation building on the 42,000-student campus.
