22 Indiana communities get nearly $9.5M in grants

INDIANAPOLIS — Twenty-two rural Indiana communities have received federal Community Focus Fund grants totaling nearly $9.5 million for projects including historic preservation to downtown revitalization.

The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs recently announced the grants including downtown revitalization grants of $450,000 or more to the city of Peru and the town of Monon. Marion received nearly $160,000 for historic preservation. The largest grants for $600,000 each went to towns of Bainbridge, Fortville, Geneva, Linden Patoka, Rockville and South Whitley for water or wastewater-related projects.

The grants are funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant program. The Office of Community and Rural Affairs provides technical assistance to community leaders during the 18-month implementation of projects.
