New nonstop service to Panama arriving at O'Hare

It will be easier to escape Illinois' cold temperatures this winter thanks to a new service at O'Hare International Airport.

The Chicago Department of Aviation has announced new daily nonstop service to Panama starting in December.

Panama-based Copa Airlines will offer the first nonstop service between Chicago and Panama City, and Chicago is the airline's first destination in the Midwest.

Copa Airlines says the new flight will be the fastest way to fly from Chicago to cities in Chile, Columbia and other Latin American destinations.

Aviation Department Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino says expanding international air service is part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's aim to spur local job growth and economic development.

The department expects the Panama flight to bring approximately $70 million in yearly economic activity to the Chicago area.
