JOLIET — Connor Cuff finished a perfect high school career by throwing a 5-hitter and driving in 4 runs as Lyons Township beat Providence 8-3 to win the Class 4A state baseball title Saturday night at Silver Cross Field.

The Penn-bound Cuff (11-0) finished his varsity career at 19-0 as Lyons (37-4) won its third state title. He had 6 strikeouts and 2 walks and his 2-run double in the third increased its lead to 5-1.

Steve Heilenbach went 3-for-4 and Brian Rodemoyer went 2-for-2 for the Lions. Providence (37-4) had its 19-game winning streak snapped despite a mammoth first-inning homer by Indiana-bound Sam Travis, his 17th of the season, and 2 RBI.
